Project objective: Collect data on media preferences of the Armenian public, including their expectations about media (traditional and alternative) content, formatting, trust in the media, as well as their perceptions regarding media freedom and censorship with emphasis on alternative (on-line) media. The main idea of this baseline survey was to portray trends in traditional and alternative media.
Research design: The study has both quantitative and qualitative components. The quantitative countrywide survey of 1420 households through face-to-face interviews was implemented using a structured questionnaire of about 90 questions. The qualitative component included eight focus group discussions on blogging, internet usage, Armenian soap operas, entertainment programs, information/news programs and advertising, as well as thirty three in-depth interviews with representatives of media industry (journalists, heads of news agencies, media owners, heads of media NGOs, public servants.
